and Trader Prices
This probably sounds very strange, but
look at this example: an identified salvage item “of Superior Water Magic” might sell to a merchant for ~200g, even though the salvaged rune would only sell for 25g to a merchant or ~50g to a rune trader (because not many players buy that time of rune). This mainly applies to salvage items containing Major or Superior Runes, since Minor Runes attached to salvage items typically don’t add enough value to make a large difference in price.
Most of the time, the gold you would
get by selling an item to a normal merchant is less than you would get by selling the same item to an appropriate trader. Dyes always sell for 1g to merchants but sell much better to traders. Runes sell for roughly 25g to merchants but may sell for much more to traders. Finally, crafting materials nearly always sell for more to traders than to merchants.

If you identify them, chances are good that they will contain a rune of some attribute. If the rune wouldn’t be useful to you, and if you don’t want to spend time trying to sell it to a player, then don’t expert-salvage the item immediately. Instead, see how much gold a merchant would give you for the salvage item. Now go to a rune trader and see what the last sale price of the rune was. If it’s only around 25g, you will probably make better money by
Player Prices: the Fast

Since the in-game economy fluctuates so
much, players auctioning off dyes, runes, or crafting materials may sometimes offer to sell items to other players for less than an NPC trader would pay. If you see a player auctioning tradable items at bargain prices, you can send a /whisper expressing interest and go check the trader to see if the selling price on that item is high. If it is, you may be able to make a quick profit by buying the item off that player and then reselling it to the trader. Alternatively, you
